There is a district promotional policy for students in 3rd, 5th, and 8th grade. Students will be promoted based on a combination of criteria. These criteria include MEAP scores, report card grades, and attendance.  
Students in grades 1, 2, and 4 must also achieve at least a "C" grade point average and meet the attendance requirement in order to be promoted to the next grade.
Students are allowed 9 excused absences each semester and a total of 18 excused absences for the entire school year. Absences are considered excused if the school has formally been notified of the child's absence in the form of a note or doctor's excuse. Excessive absence could result in grade retention.
According to Detroit Public Schools Attendance Policy, three (3) tardies will be counted as one (1) absence.
